As part of the Fourth Nordic Conference on Scholarly Communications, held at the University of Lund in Sweden, Dr Leo Waaijers has been presented with the 2008 SPARC Europe Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scholarly Communications.

SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) announce that the SPARC-ACRL Forum during the 2008 American Library Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., will provide a timely look at “Campus Open Access Policies: The Harvard Experience and How to Get There.” Co-sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services—Continuing Resources (ALCTS-CRS, formerly Serials Section), the forum will give an up-close look at the recent vote by Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences enabling open access to their scholarly articles in an institutional repository.

The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) have released a new, short video to help librarians effectively engage disciplinary faculty and researchers on the topic of author rights. Starting a conversation with faculty researchers about securing their rights as authors is timelier than ever, given the new NIH Public Access Policy.

SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), Science Commons, and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) have jointly released a white paper to help university and medical school administrators ensure their institutions comply with public access requirements that are soon to be a condition of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.
